Project Description

RIDE ‘n RAFT CHALLENGE, NEPAL

Ride and Raft … Mountain Bike through world’s deepest river gorge before jumping into rafts to tackle the white water!

  • Fast intense challenge on bikes and rafts in a world class setting
  • Great 1000m drop from Muktinath to Kagbeni; no pedalling!
  • Over 140km on quality mountain bikes, 42 km of white water including ‘Big Brother’
  • Very experienced Guides, full mechanical support
  • All food on trek, full support pre-trek, FREE holdall

This challenge requires a high level of physical and mental fitness involving a sustained period of intense activity. But wow, what an experience!

Test your bike around the trails of the Kathmandu Valley before we take an early morning flight to the start point at the mountain airstrip of Jomson. The flight is simply breathtaking flying up the very valley you’ll be riding back down.

The mountain bike section will cover approx 145km, starting with a relatively gentle and flat ride to Kagbeni. Then it’s a tough climb to Muktinath (3760m, the most northern village on the Annapurna Circuit). The next 3 days is a mainly downhill (starting with that 1000m descent), sometimes quick, often curving and definitely undulating along the river until you reach the town of Beni (1100m).

Then you hit the river, rafting for 3 days, hitting grade III and IV rapids including ‘Big Brother’. Your nights will be spent camping on the sandy beaches along the river, enjoying your evening meal by the camp fire.

This Raft ‘n Ride Challenge includes well maintained ‘Giant’ mountain bikes, accompanied by a qualified mountain bike guide and mechanic. The rafting section is fully supported by trained crew and all safety equipment and training will be provided.

A great and unusual challenge in a world class setting.

Ride the world’s deepest river gorge – nestled between 2 x 8000m peaks, the Kali Ghandaki river flows through the deepest river gorge in the world. You ride into it and then along it.

Drop 1000m in 1 day – from Muktinath (3700m), you ride down to the valley floor in a matter of hours; exhilarating stuff.

We fly Kathmandu to Pokhara to Jomson to start this challenge. The latter flight is simply breathtaking flying up the very valley you’ll be riding back down.

We use Tea Houses (lodges) when biking and camping on the river side.
