Our trekking route allows you to fully experience this superb region, travelling through hamada, twisting wadi’s and untouched windblown Sahara sand dunes. You will be totally immersed in the desert way of life as you encounter deserted villages and deep water wells frequented by Sahara nomads along the way.
The highlight of your Sahara trek is reached at the furthest point from civilization – the huge dune of Erg Zaher. Seen in the far distance well before, you will climb this 1900′ dune, towering majestically over all others within the Chigaga region to watch the sun set. For most people, this is a moment to reflect on the purpose of your challenge and your amazing achievement.
During the trek days, you will stop for leisurely lunches in the shade of the tamarisk trees and as the sun sets, gather together to share a Moroccan feast. The quality of the food is absolutely amazing.
At night you will wild camp amongst the sand dunes; there are no sound, no lights, just Sahara’s peaceful night sky littered with stars. The solitude and freedom of the desert can be life changing and the minimalist existence is both liberating and humbling. Your everyday life back home will feel a million miles away. By the time you finish, it will be hard to leave the desert behind. The rewarding sense of achievement is however immense and you will take home some very special memories.
Your journey starts and ends in the colourful and captivating city of Marrakech. Enjoy the souks within the vast Medina, the Spas or maybe a local Hammam.
The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance is a dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) operating in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Currently flying 12 hours a day we attend on average, 1,000 of the most serious 999 calls every year.
This is a figure only set to rise as we start to fly 24 hours a day– responding to more patients than ever before. With this increase in hours comes an increase in operational costs meaning we will have to raise £4million per year to keep our helicopter in the air 24/7, 365 days of the year.
Our helicopter can reach any point in the two counties in less than 20 minutes and on average can transfer a patient to hospital within 8 minutes. Each one of these potentially life-saving mission costs approx. £2,500.
In 2019 our Charity will celebrate a quarter of a century of saving lives. In that time, we have responded to over 19,200 of the most serious life-threatening illnesses and injuries, delivering specialist medical attention to the people of Lincs & Notts in their greatest hour of need.
Traveling at speeds sometimes in excess of 200mph, our skilled team of pilots, doctors and paramedics effectively bring the equivalent of an A&E department to the scene of an incident and can transport a patient to a specialist unit or major hospital in a fraction of the time taken by road ambulance.
The money you raise through undertaking our Sahara Trek Challenge will enable us to continue saving lives for years to come. So, thank you!
