Kilimanjaro to Coast Charity Bike Ride

Kilimanjaro to
Coast Charity
Bike Ride

14 – 24 Sep 2019

Kilimanjaro to Coast – the Indian Ocean
An outstanding 430 km charity bike ride through rural Tanzania

Our Kilimanjaro to Coast Charity Bike Ride is an 11 day trip UK – UK, including a 6 day bike ride. It ventures from the coffee plantations in the shadow of Kilimanjaro, through National Parks right out to Pangani on the Indian Ocean coast, some 430 km away.

  • Bike Ride through glorious Tanzanian rural countryside
  • All meals and drinking water, local camping
  • Guide, mechanics and 4×4 support vehicle
  • Finish on the Indian Ocean coast
  • Full support pre-trip

This Kilimanjaro to Coast Charity Bike Ride arrives into Kilimanjaro’s international airport (overnight stay) before heading out through sisal, fruit and banana plantations towards Lake Jipe. Skirting both Tsavo West National Park and Mkomazi National Park the cycle takes you through some of the most breathtaking scenery as you circumnavigate the North and South Pare Mountains as well as the spectacular Usumbara Mountains in the West.

Daily distances are varied with the occasional long day. You have the reassurance that your accompanying mechanic is always on hand to deal with any maintenance issues and even a change of bike if required. Your guide will be a constant presence and the support vehicle will always be in close contact. Due to the remote route of this challenge, a Tanzanian doctor will accompany the group in the support vehicle.

You get a very warm welcome on this trip, few tourists go this way and certainly not on bikes! Excellent way to see Tanzania within a relaxed yet challenging environment.

During thisKilimanjaro to Coast Charity Bike Ride we camp in local villages and where possible, primary school playing fields. These remote areas see very few tourists and so a huge bonus of this charity bike ride is that the fees go directly to the local communities and primary schools. The children love a selfie and the odd game of football!

Your final destination, Pangani, perfectly sums up the Swahili spirit of the Tanzanian coast. It offers the ideal compromise between the Indian Ocean coast, the Swahili village and a genuinely peaceful environment not influenced by mass tourism. Pangani has some history but now it’s mainly a fishing town where you will enjoy clean beaches where endangered Green Turtles breed, historic sites and coral reefs.

Have you seen our Kilimanjaro to Ngorongoro Charity Cycle? Starts in the same place and heads west to the Ngorongoro Crater; safari on a bike!

Home

Full Cycle Support – Guides leading (all bike mechanics) + a 4×4 in support with spares, including spare bikes.

Any Technical Riding? – No. The vast majority is on single tracks suitable for 4×4 vehicles or similar.
