Our Hospice trek follows an ancient Portuguese Camel route, discovering endless beaches and secluded coves. The variety of terrain takes you high above the sea along cliff tops and through Argan forests and wild landscapes. The crashing Atlantic surf is a constant companion and provides breathtaking views.

This section of coastline sits in the path of the vents alizés, or trade winds – strong north-easterlies that blow steadily through spring and summer. Whilst the route can be trekked throughout the year, it offers near perfect conditions from April to August.

The hospice trek is fully supported by our camel crew. We only need to carry a day sac with personal necessities, allowing us to relax and enjoy the journey. Walking between 4/5 hours a day, there is plenty of time to explore the dunes, take a dip in the sea or simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the waves. Our night camps will be either on the beach or close by. This affords plenty of opportunities to capture the sunsets across the Ocean and later, mesmerising stars across unending skies.

Once we have reached Sidi Kaouki, we spend two nights in Essaouira. It is an ancient Portuguese port famous for its relaxed pace and easy lifestyle. Elsewhere in Morocco, the markets can be overwhelming, but here you can browse without being pestered as local crafts blend into fine art and boutiques.

Then it’s back to Marrakech. We have a final evening exploring Jamaa el-Fnaa with its carnival atmosphere and enjoying some final shopping in the famous souks.

  • Dramatic coastline and endless beaches offering a breathtaking adventure.
  • A camel supported genuine “away from it all” trekking experience.
  • Explore the ancient white-washed town of Essaouira (UNESCO).
  • Suitable for inexperienced trekkers.
  • Explore Marrakech.

You then raise as much sponsorship as you can for your chosen charity. There is no pressure of a time or financial target.
The balance payment for your trip is due 60 days prior to your departure.

You pay us the deposit PLUS a 2nd personal contribution (some months later), which reduces the fundraising target.
You then commit to raising a minimum amount of sponsorship for your chosen charity. From that the remaining balance for your trip will be paid.
You will be asked to complete a Pledge Form with the charity. It sets out the target dates and any guidelines required; this is a requirement of your booking.
Your fundraising target must be met, and paid to the charity, a min of 10 weeks prior to your departure date. This enables them to pay the remaining balance for your trip with no financial risk to themselves.

Your chosen charity will support your fundraising throughout and all sponsorship money you raise must be paid to them upon receipt. Your fundraising target must be met, and paid to the charity, a min of 10 weeks prior to your departure date. This enables them to pay the remaining balance for your trip with no financial risk to themselves.

Hospice trek4life Itinerary

Day 1.  Depart UK, fly to Marrakech

On arrival in Marrakech, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel/Riad. Once you have settled in and after your Guide briefing, you will want to experience the famous Djemaa el Fna square. Your first experience of the square is one of a senses explosion. There are entertainers performing, a myriad of food stalls all lit up with the smells to accompany them, and the general melee of activity.

Day 2. Drive Marrakesh to Tamri and trek to Tidli Beach area

After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and head towards Chicahaoua before turning towards the coast. Today’s drive is approximately 5 hours and we’ll enjoy a lunch stop along the way. In the afternoon we reach the village of Tamri near the mouth of the wadi Ouassif and the start of today’s walk. It’s approximately 2 hours to our first nights camp which is just south of Tidli beach.

Total journey time 5 hrs, Trek 6km – 2 hours (B,L,D)

Day 3. Trek from Tidli Beach to Amderdiz’in

After breakfast we continue our trek at a relaxed pace along the beach and onwards to the coast near Imsouane. Todays walking will be a mixture of beach walking and scrub trails above the coast. It’s approximately 4-5 hours to the fishing village of Amderdiz’in and our camp for the night, located high on the cliffs with ocean views. Before dinner, enjoy a stroll down to the beach below

Trek 12km – 4-5 hours (B,L,D)

Day 4. Walk above hidden bays to the fishing village of Tafeda

Hospice trek4life - Classic night stop on this hospice trekThis is a splendid days walk often high above the sea looking down on hidden bays and crashing waves. Continuing at the relaxed pace we make our way to Tafeda where the Atlas mountains reach the sea. Tafeda was once an important Portuguese sea port but today it is a small fishing village and we make camp just outside the village. After arriving, there will be time to stroll along the beach which seems to extend for milesTrek 18km – 5-6 hours (B,L,D)

Day 5. Walk deserted beaches to Sidi Ahmed Essayeh

Our trek today takes us into a wild landscape of argan forest, where goats graze on the scrubby plants. We eventually drop down and walk beside the waves, along deserted beaches to our camp at Sidi Ahmed Assayh. We will stop on route for a picnic lunch, meeting the camels again at our night camp located next to the sea.

After watching the sun set over the Atlantic, you can enjoy an evening surrounded by the star filled sky above the sea.

Trek 17km – 6 hours (B,L,D)

Day 6. Coastal paths to Bizergane Bay

Today we walk an impressive trail above the Atlantic passing through several Berber villages. In the afternoon we arrive at Bizergane where the towering dunes divided by the River Boud, a small river (assif) leading to the sea where you will often see small colourful fishing boats drawn onto the sand. Nearby you will find the waterfalls of Sidi M’barek where if the weather permits, you can enjoy a fresh water shower.

Tonight we camp in this beautiful location.

Trek 10km -4/5 hours (B,L,D)

Day 7. Sidi Kaouki beach and transfer to Essaouira

Hospice trek4life - Essaouria's portToday is the final leg of our trek and we enjoy an incredibly scenic walk from one deserted beach to the next with spectacular wide ocean views. Finally we reach the wide expanse of Sidi Kaouki which is popular among wind surfers. Here we bid farewell to our camel drivers and the camels and board a minibus for a 40 minute drive to Essaouira.

You will have some free time during the afternoon. Wander through the spice-scented lanes and palm-lined avenues of the fortified medina. Or browse the many art galleries and boutiques, and watch fishing nets being mended. Traditional boats are routinely constructed in the hugely atmospheric port.

This evening you will enjoy a celebration meal.

Trek 11km -4/5 hours (B,L,D)

Day 8. Essaouira to Marrakech

After breakfast we transfer back to the city of Marrakech (3 hrs). You can enjoy the remainder of your day experiencing the famous Jamaa el-Fnaa, Marrakech’s medina. Explore the souks or simply enjoy the day relaxing before you return home (B&B).
