Project Description

FINNMARK ARCTIC CHALLENGE

Fantastic Arctic Charity Challenge; a full on 7 day expedition in some of the best cross country skiing terrain in the world.

  • No previous skiing or winter camping experience needed
  • Experience the Northern Lights (weather dependant)
  • Very experienced and professional Guides, superb for first time arctic adventurers
  • Full support pre-trek, all specialist equipment provided

The Finnmark Arctic Charity Challenge is a serious challenge due to the environment. It takes place within an invisible (to the client) and yet solid safety framework. It is therefore perfect for anyone considering this type of challenge for the first time. During the 7 days out in the wilderness, the skiing distances are manageable and the overnight stops use a mix of tents and mountain huts. Clients need to be robust, fit and up for a real challenge of this nature.

Having arrived in Norway, this point to point route works its way over the Finnmark plateau on pristine, crisp, white ‘dry’ snow, using a mix of cabins (basic lodges) and tents for approximately 80km. The Guides will teach you everything, from the tents, cooking equipment, how to handle to Husky dog(s) and how to ice fish (dinner!). This trip is therefore very educational too. The final Lodge is a real treat (see the image below).

The sense of freedom and open space is immense; no roads, no people, no fixed times to adhere to. The expedition is completely self contained, save for the friendly Alaskan Husky (the number will depend on the size of the group). They are there to help pull the supplies. Most of the specialist equipment is included (skis, boots, poles, tents, pulks, cooking equipment, etc…).

This easy paced expedition is designed to be a stress free, enjoyable adventure across what is rated as some of the best cross country skiing terrain in the world.
Herds of reindeer and their nomadic herders are highly likely to be seen.

This Finnmark Arctic expedition is for any aspiring adventurer, looking to try the arctic environment and yet not extreme (although it can be if the weather is against you). The ski distances are not huge but enjoyable even for non skiers. Clients will still need to be fit to cope with the rigours of such an environment but no previous experience of the arctic is required.

No previous experience necessary

It’s true! The cross country skiing is an easy shuffle motion (no speedy stuff!) given the fact that you are pulling a 30kg pulk behind you. The equipment provided (tents, etc..) is top notch and designed for the conditions.
